DazzlingBAD is an active visual kei band in Tokyo. They are part of the kote kei and loud kei subgenres. They have been active since 2020.
My original comment was based on a total misunderstanding of the band's approach to performing live. It is clear that they want their performances to be faithful to the recordings that they put out. As anyone who listens to the records can tell, iT's vocals on virtually every track are made up of several layers, usually all mixed around the same volume, often very close in pitch in order to create a very striking harmonic/discordant effect, and often with different vocal tracks being processed by distinct effectors. This isn't unheard of in visual kei, but DazzlingBAD employs these techniques to the nth degree in nearly every track. Of course, this many layers is not possible for one person to perform live. So, backing tracks must be used live. Because they are all mixed around the same level as the live vocal, and maybe even louder in some cases, it can be easy for one's ear to lose track of the live vocal in the mix when listening to this band live. For me, this was initially distracting because it's not exactly what I'm used to hearing. But definitively, this is not a case of lip syncing, iT does not stop singing, he is simply accompanied by loud vocal layers. Of course, this only applies to “clean” vocals; essentially all of the high screams, whistle screams, guttural vocals, laughing, choking, and speaking are performed unaccompanied by any sort of vocal backing tracks.
They are currently on a oneman tour promoting the Immortal Emperor, the first live from this tour being held on 04/15 at Shishio live house. Also the day before the release of the album - on the 22nd of April, there was a special event in Like an Edison where fans could buy the CD and get it signed
I'm not sure how to add lives so I'll just put this here! They have a show 10/29 at Shinjuku HOLIDAY SHINJUKU with RAN, GrimAqua, 進撃のあわけ, Deathpair, イクシア, ブロッケン, and RAYMEI. The event's called Fucker Halloween
With all due respect to the website staff, I'm not sure why koteosa is hard-locked onto this page. Seeing the kote, not seeing the oshare at all. They are a heavy gothic band with an updated kote kei style. I believe we as users should be allowed to vote on their status as koteosa.
This was an accidental oversight. In previous years, the koteosa tag could be applied to any band. About a year ago or so, we restricted the tag to bands within a certain time period (which DazzlingBAD does not fall within). This unintentionally had the effect of “freezing the tag in place” because it had already been added before the policy change, but can no longer be voted on.
I have manually removed the tag for now and will add to our support queue to look for other such cases.
How exactly are they groundbreaking? iT has a very out-there voice but that doesn't qualify them as groundbreaking. There's really nothing you can point at for that tag.
It's based on voting, so I guess most people disagree. They're definitely experimenting in look and sound, both are quite different than their peers, and they're starting a lot of trends we are seeing pop up in the scene.
